Resilience of Farming Systems

Summary: Resilient farming systems are fundamental to achieving the Sustainable Development Agenda. My research is dedicated to understanding and enhancing the resilience of small-scale, rural, mixed farming systems that face a wide range of agricultural challenges. Using a participatory systems dynamics approach, I explore the complex causes and effects of resilience within these communities. I also aim to quantify how resilience capacities—such as robustness, adaptability, and transformability—are shaped by various farm and farmer characteristics. Ultimately, this work identifies key drivers that can strengthen resilience, supporting the development of more sustainable, adaptive, and future-ready agricultural systems.
